What draws you forward at MOSLA?
Loosing data has occurred to me even early on in my scientific life as I tried to access the data on a MO storage drive while pursuing my Ph.D. at The University of Arizona only a year earlier in Karlsruhe, Germany. Ever since, the loss of data reading capabilities and format incomatibilities keep bugging me, alerting me of the challenges associated with “Long data”. Being able to contribute tackling this challenge of knowledge loss sounded intriguing to me so I decided to join the consortium.
Which goal do you want to achieve next?
Realize prototypical nultichannel optical datastorage using fluorescent media more general: Establish a high performance and internationally visible optics expertise at JLU (Justus Liebig University).
What are you passionate about?
Light, or maybe more specifically: Lasers and optics (everything works better with lasers) but somehwhat more serious, light, for those who experience it, is maybe the most important sensing tool for humans. It offers endless possibilities in physical sensing and – beyond monitoring – controlling materials responses or even matter itself.
What did you always want to do?
To realize challenging experimental tasks, ideally even considered impossible (everything goes…. I know, physics says this is not true sometimes…) more specifically, do a table-top experiment outperforming large-scale experimental (accelerator) facilities. Also, it is nice to find or develop things which actually make life more pleasant (or easy) – this somewhat relates to the prior point – I always feel a glimpse of happiness when I have in hand presumable the first “smart home device” (or better smart-lab device” – a remote controlled (USB and potentially network controllable) 220V outlet realized in the 2000s…
